Man with mental illness charged with father’s murder at luxury Irish resort

30-year-old Henry McGowan from New York has been charged with the murder of his father, 60-year-old John McGowan, at a luxury hotel in Ireland. John was found dead at the Ballyfin Demesne hotel in County Laois after sustaining severe injuries during an assault in the hotel’s leisure center. Local authorities responded to the scene and discovered the body of the 60-year-old man. Henry was subsequently arrested and appeared in Portlaoise District Court on November 15. His lawyer stated that he has significant mental health challenges and requested a psychiatric evaluation, which was approved by the judge.
