Report alleges Israel engaged in war crimes against Palestinians in Gaza

Human Rights Watch accused Israel of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza through the forced displacement of Palestinian civilians. The report stated that Israel’s actions amounted to ethnic cleansing and urged governments to cut off military aid and sanction Israeli officials involved. The war in Gaza began in October 2023 after Hamas militants attacked Israel, leading to a deadly Israeli assault that has displaced around 90% of Gaza’s population. The report found that Israel’s evacuation system failed to keep civilians safe and caused fear and anxiety. The destruction of Gaza’s infrastructure and establishment of buffer zones will likely prevent many displaced civilians from returning home. Despite the U.S. claiming that Israel had not blocked humanitarian aid from entering Gaza, international aid organizations said Israel had failed to meet its obligations. Secretary of State Antony Blinken called for an end to the war and extended pauses in fighting. Israel’s military had no immediate comment on the report.
