Barmore Returns to Practice as Patriots Gear Up for Match Against Rams
FOXBORO — The New England Patriots received a significant boost as defensive lineman Christian Barmore returned to practice on Thursday, marking his first participation since late July. This development suggests the team has activated Barmore’s 21-day window to return from injured reserve, where he had been sidelined due to blood clots discovered early in training camp.
At just 25 years old, Barmore’s return is keenly anticipated, although his timeline for a full comeback remains uncertain. Defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington stated the team would approach Barmore’s rehabilitation on a “day-by-day” basis, maintaining optimism while taking precautions. Despite being out of full contact practices all season, Barmore has been committed to regaining his fitness at the team facility for several weeks.
In addition to Barmore, three other defenders returned to practice: linebacker Sione Takitaki, who was dealing with a hamstring issue, along with cornerbacks Marcellas Dial (concussion) and Isaiah Bolden (personal reasons). Notably, Thursday’s practice session was not held in full pads, a precaution given the team’s roster status.
However, the Patriots still face challenges, with defensive lineman Deatrich Wise out due to a foot injury, which raises concerns about his availability for the upcoming game against the Los Angeles Rams. Wide receiver Tyquan Thornton and practice-squad offensive tackle Caleb Jones were also non-participants, with Thornton’s absence being particularly unexplained.
The Patriots are set to release their next injury report later this evening, which will provide further insights into the fitness of the squad as they prepare for the Sunday matchup.
