A Minnesota father and his five children are in critical condition after a propane tank explosion caused by a cigarette lighter igniting the gas in a storage container. The tank was believed to be empty but still contained enough gas to fill the container to dangerous levels, leading to the explosion when the children entered to grab toys without recognizing the gas smell. The family is now facing a long road to recovery, and fundraisers have been set up to help cover their medical bills and surgeries. The GoFundMe page organized by Kyra Frank has already raised more than $95,000 towards the $50,000 goal, while the CaringBridge page set up by JaCee Frank provides updates on the children’s conditions. The SFM advises storing propane tanks outside, using detectors for smoke, carbon monoxide, and gas, and evacuating immediately if a gas odor is present, as even a small spark could ignite it. It is important to take precautions when handling propane to avoid accidents like the one suffered by this family.
