Volunteers Prepare Care Packages for Deployed Troops This Holiday Season
BOSTON, MA – In a heartwarming display of community spirit, dozens of volunteers from Suffolk Construction, the USO, and Massport came together on Tuesday to assemble 1,040 care packages for American troops who will be deployed and away from their families during the upcoming holiday season.
The initiative, held at Logan Airport, aimed to provide comfort and holiday cheer to servicemen and women stationed around the globe. Leaders and volunteers expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to support those defending the nation, highlighting the importance of recognizing their sacrifices, especially during the holidays.
Brenda Corniel from Massport worked tirelessly along with other volunteers to prepare the care packages, which include a variety of snacks and goodies. The USO confirmed that these care packages will be distributed to service members deployed as far away as East Africa, with the delivery expected to be completed by the end of the month.
Among the volunteers was Laura Lakin, a veteran and employee at Suffolk Construction, who expressed her pride in contributing to the effort. State Rep. Adrian Madaro and USO Regional President Rebecca Parkes also took part in the assembly, reinforcing the importance of community involvement in supporting military personnel.
This collaborative effort not only serves to uplift the spirits of those serving overseas but also fosters a sense of unity within the local community. As the holiday season approaches, initiatives like these remind everyone of the importance of giving back to the brave men and women who protect the freedoms we cherish.
