Dear Annie: Should my wife go to dinner with a man who has sent romantic messages?

In a recent column, Annie offers advice on two separate friendship dilemmas. The first writer recounts feeling hurt by her friend’s behavior, including not having a bridal shower and posting about events she was excluded from on social media. Despite living just 15 minutes away, the friend rarely makes an effort to see her. Annie suggests addressing the issue with the friend to seek closure, or allowing the friendship to naturally fade.

In the second letter, a husband expresses concern about his wife attending a dinner with her former brother-in-law, who has openly expressed romantic interest in her. Annie advises the husband to attend the dinner with his wife or ask her to decline the invite, as it could be seen as leading the brother-in-law on.

Annie Lane has recently released a new anthology titled “How Can I Forgive My Cheating Partner?” featuring favorite columns on marriage, infidelity, communication, and reconciliation. The book is available in paperback and e-book formats.
