Ronald S. Perry, a legendary figure in high school and college athletics, passed away at the age of 92, leaving a lasting impact on his former players and colleagues. Perry, who excelled in both basketball and baseball at Somerville High School, went on to play at Holy Cross and was part of a championship-winning team in both sports.
Following a brief stint in professional sports, Perry returned to Massachusetts and coached at Catholic Memorial, where he achieved great success. Known for his standard of excellence, Perry won numerous championships and mentored many players who went on to compete at the college level.
Perry later served as the athletic director at Holy Cross, where he was instrumental in expanding the school’s athletic programs. Despite no longer coaching, he continued to have a positive influence on the lives of many athletes, including Peter Colombo, a two-sport star who credits Perry for his guidance and support.
In his later years, Perry devoted himself to caring for his wife until her passing, remaining a beloved figure in the West Roxbury community. Dr. Peter F. Folan, the president of Catholic Memorial, fondly recalls Perry’s dedication to athletics and his commitment to shaping the character of his players.
