A technical issue has caused thousands of Instagram users to experience problems sending messages and accessing direct messages on the platform. According to Downdetector, over 2,000 reports have been filed since the issues began at approximately 5.14 pm on Tuesday. Users have taken to other social media platforms to express their frustration and check if others are experiencing similar issues. Despite the ongoing outage, Instagram and its parent company Meta have not yet released an official statement on the cause of the technical difficulties.
This is not the first time that Instagram and Facebook, which is also owned by Meta, have experienced widespread outages. In October, a significant outage affected thousands of users in the US, with over 12,000 reports of issues with Facebook and over 5,000 reports of issues with Instagram. Earlier this year, hundreds of thousands of users globally were impacted by another outage that lasted for more than two hours, with over 550,000 reports of disruptions for Facebook and 92,000 for Instagram.
Users are advised to stay updated on the Instagram status page and Downdetector for any developments regarding the current outage. In the meantime, many are turning to alternative social media platforms to stay connected. The cause of the technical difficulties remains unknown, but users are hopeful for a swift resolution to the issue.
