In 1986, a fisherman found a woman’s body floating in a lake in Louisiana, leading to her being known as “Lake Lady Jane Doe” for nearly four decades. Last week, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office announced that new DNA technology had identified her as Pamela Lee Hupp, a 33-year-old woman. Hupp had been found in Lake Pontchartrain near Slidell, and her death was ruled a homicide caused by asphyxia. She was also pregnant at the time. The investigation into her murder remained unsolved as of Monday, with her killer’s identity unknown. Hupp’s skull had been reconstructed and her story was featured on “America’s Most Wanted.” In 2022, a grant enabled further DNA analysis and genealogy research, leading to the identification of potential family members in April 2023. Hupp was born in April 1958 and was last known to have lived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It is unclear what she was doing in Florida at the time of her death or how she was killed. The sheriff’s office thanked investigators for their efforts in identifying Hupp and pledged to continue working until her killer is brought to justice. Anyone with information is urged to contact the sheriff’s office.
