The family of Lucy Garcia, a 72-year-old woman from Ohio, has filed a lawsuit against the nursing home where she was being treated after developing a pressure wound that ultimately led to her death. Garcia was admitted to Arbors at Oregon for long term residential care in January 2023 after suffering a stroke and passed away in July 2024 due to complications from the pressure ulcer. The lawsuit, filed in Lucas County, alleges medical negligence and recklessness by the facility and seeks at least $25,000 in damages. According to the lawsuit, Garcia was heavily reliant on the nursing home staff due to her stroke, which left her needing assistance with daily tasks. The family claims that despite the facility’s assurances of having adequate staff and training, Garcia developed a pressure wound that was not properly addressed, leading to her death. The lawsuit also alleges that the facility failed to report bedsores to regulatory agencies in order to maintain a positive quality measures rating. Garcia’s family was not informed of the severity of her condition until it was too late, and she passed away as a result of the neglect she experienced at the nursing home. Lucy Garcia was described as a matriarch of a large family, leaving behind four sons, 17 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. The family’s lawyer is determined to seek justice for Garcia and hold the nursing home accountable for her preventable death.
