The speculation around Bill Belichick potentially becoming the new coach of the New York Jets following the firing of Robert Saleh has been circulating on social media. However, former Patriots player Julian Edelman doesn’t see it happening, especially after Belichick coached the Patriots for 24 seasons. During an appearance on “The Herd With Colin Cowherd,” Edelman expressed that he couldn’t imagine Belichick or Mike Vrabel coaching the Jets due to the longstanding rivalry between the Patriots and the Jets.
Though Belichick has a history with the Jets as their former defensive coordinator and coach for a brief period in 2000 before resigning to join the Patriots, it would still be surprising for him to return to the team given their rocky past. Belichick has publicly expressed his admiration for certain Jets players in the past, but after revealing issues with Jets ownership in a documentary and criticizing the team amid Sam Darnold’s success with the Vikings, it seems unlikely that he would consider coaching the team now.
For the time being, Belichick will continue his various media engagements and coaching duties with the Patriots. Despite the speculation, it appears that a reunion between Belichick and the Jets is not in the cards.
