The Boston Celtics remained undefeated in preseason action with a dominant 139-89 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers at TD Garden. Despite the Sixers resting their top eight players, the Celtics starters led by Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum built a massive lead early in the game. Rookie Jared McCain scored 20 points for Philadelphia in the loss.
Luke Kornet shined in place of Al Horford, putting up 15 points and showing his value in the front court. The Celtics starters looked prepared for the regular season, playing with purpose and cohesion on both ends of the floor. Guerschon Yabusele, starting at center for the Sixers, held his own with seven points and three rebounds.
Lonnie Walker, who had been limited to mop-up duty in previous games, impressed in a larger role off the bench. He showcased his passing ability with seven assists along with solid defense, making a case for a spot on the final roster.
The Celtics improve to 3-0 in the preseason with two games remaining, while the Sixers fall to 1-2. Boston’s front-court depth will be tested with Kristaps Porzingis sidelined, but players like Kornet and Walker are stepping up to fill the void. The Celtics look to continue their preseason success as they head into the regular season.
