Two firefighters die after tree falls on their truck during Hurricane Helene

The Saluda County Fire Service in South Carolina is mourning the loss of Chief Chad Satcher, 53, and volunteer firefighter Landon Bodie, 18, who were killed responding to Hurricane Helene. The two were responding to a fire when a tree fell and hit their fire engine. Bodie, a recent high school graduate, was passionate about agriculture and helping others. Satcher, who had been with the Circle Fire Department for 35 years and became chief in 2023, was a dedicated firefighter, mentor, and family man. His wife, Summer, asked for prayers for both her late husband and Bodie as they faced the tragic loss. Satcher accumulated numerous awards and was highly respected within the firefighting community. His wife shared updates on social media, expressing gratitude for the support and asking for prayers. Memorial donations can be made to the South Carolina State Firefighters Foundation. The Saluda County Fire Service thanked the community for their support during this difficult time and asked for continued prayers for the families of the fallen firefighters. The department highlighted the selflessness and bravery of both Satcher and Bodie, recognizing their commitment to serving and protecting their community.
