DCF, police, and the school district are currently investigating an incident involving a 4-year-old boy with autism who was allegedly assaulted by a teacher at Joseph Lee K-8 School in Dorchester, Boston. The mother of the child, Ruth Peguero, claims that the teacher physically harmed her son, leaving bruises on his back and fingers. Peguero received a call from the Department of Children and Families on September 25, notifying her about the incident that occurred on September 23.
The police report indicates that the teacher grabbed the child’s arms, slammed him to the floor, and either stepped on or pinched his legs and fingers. The teacher’s name has been redacted from the report, and no arrests or charges have been made as of now.
Boston Public Schools released a statement expressing their concern over the allegations and assuring that they are working closely with authorities to take appropriate action. They are also in communication with the student’s family to offer support and investigate the matter further. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu addressed the issue, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of all students in the school district.
The district has promised to thoroughly investigate the incident and take the necessary steps to prevent such incidents from happening in the future. The community is shocked by these allegations and eagerly awaits the outcome of the ongoing investigations.
