Kairos Shen, a former city employee who worked in planning and development under previous mayors, is returning to City Hall as Boston’s new chief of planning. Shen, who currently teaches at MIT, will start his new role on Oct. 15, replacing former Planning Chief Arthur Jemison. Shen expressed his excitement to return to City Hall with a fresh perspective after a decade of teaching and research, stating that Boston has changed significantly in the past ten years. He commended Mayor Michelle Wu for her progress in just two and a half years and looks forward to continuing important initiatives such as zoning reform and improving development review processes. Shen’s expertise and experience in urban planning and development make him a valuable addition to the City Hall team.
