Boston Celtics guard Derrick White was involved in an altercation at Saturday’s college football game between Colorado and Colorado State, where he was struck in the head by a fan. TMZ Sports released footage of the incident showing the fan hitting White in the head with his fist, resulting in White’s hat getting knocked off. The altercation reportedly stemmed from White showing support for his alma mater, the University of Colorado. Despite exchanging words with the fan, White did not retaliate and law enforcement arrived to de-escalate the situation. No police report was filed after the incident.
White, a Colorado alum who played for the university from 2015-2017, eventually witnessed Colorado’s victory over Colorado State. This incident comes after White’s eventful summer, where he played a key role in the Celtics winning the NBA championship in June and later signed a lucrative contract extension. He also won a gold medal with Team USA in August. As the Celtics prepare for the upcoming NBA season, White and the team will be returning to Boston for training camp and to defend their championship title. Despite the altercation, White remains focused on his basketball career and upcoming season with the Boston Celtics.
