Ryan Routh, the suspect in the Trump assassination plot, has a complicated past

Ryan Routh, the man arrested for a suspected assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, was a passionate supporter of Ukraine in its fight against Russia. Routh had a history of business troubles and court filings, with over 200 court cases involving him. He lived in Hawaii and North Carolina, where he was a registered Democrat and voted in various elections. Routh posted fiery, idealistic commentary on social media and claimed to recruit soldiers for foreign wars.

Routh was found with a rifle, backpack, and a camera at the scene of the incident. He was known for urging others to join him in fighting for Ukraine and had indicated traveling to Ukraine himself. Routh was also reported to have been recruiting Afghan soldiers to fight in Ukraine. His business dealings often went sour, with numerous court cases in North Carolina.

Authorities intercepted Routh after the attempted shooting, with Trump being golfing nearby. The rifle used in the incident was described as an AK-style assault rifle with a long-range scope. This was the second attempt on Trump’s life in recent months, with the previous one involving a lone gunman opening fire at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Routh had a controversial history in Hawaii, where he launched a company but failed to complete projects for clients. He had also spent time in Ukraine and expressed disillusionment with wealthy individuals. Sheriff Bradshaw praised the Secret Service for their response to the incident and noted that security measures may be increased in the future at golf courses where Trump visits.
