Far-right activist Laura Loomer gains influence with Donald Trump

Laura Loomer, a far-right media figure known for spreading conspiracy theories and Islamophobic claims, has gained the attention of former President Donald Trump. Trump repeated one of Loomer’s conspiracy theories about Haitian immigrants eating dogs and cats in Ohio during a debate against Vice President Kamala Harris, leading to concerns among GOP operatives about Trump’s ability to appeal to moderates. Loomer first gained notoriety as a college student for making controversial statements and has since become a social media influencer in right-wing circles. She has run for Congress in Florida twice but has been unsuccessful. Despite being banned from Twitter for hate speech, she continues to support Trump, who has called her “amazing.” Trump has been asked about his relationship with Loomer and has distanced himself from her comments, stating that he disagrees with her statements. A public spat between Loomer and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, another staunch Trump supporter, erupted over racist remarks made by Loomer about Harris. Greene condemned Loomer’s comments as “appalling and extremely racist,” leading to further attacks and accusations between the two.
