Severe storms and unprecedented rainfall have caused flooding across several Central European countries, including Romania, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Poland. In Romania, at least four people were found dead in flooded areas in the eastern counties of Galati and Vaslui. Rescue teams have been working to evacuate stranded residents and help those affected by the floodwaters. In Galati alone, 5,000 households have been affected by the flooding.
In the Czech Republic, river levels have reached dangerous heights, leading to the evacuation of hundreds of people. Authorities have declared the highest flood warnings in over 70 areas in the country. In Austria, 24 villages have been declared “disaster zones” and residents are being evacuated from those areas. The Danube River in Vienna is also experiencing a sharp rise in water levels.
In Poland, precautionary evacuations have taken place in two villages near Nysa due to the threat of unprecedented rainfall. In Moldova, emergency workers are pumping floodwater from houses and dealing with partial electricity outages in several localities. The extreme weather event has also caused damage in Slovakia, Germany, and Hungary.
The intense rainfall and flooding have caused widespread destruction and are testing the preparedness and response capabilities of emergency services in the affected countries. Residents in the impacted areas are being urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
