Authorities in Kentucky are actively searching for a suspect in an active shooter situation that has resulted in multiple people being shot. The incident has caused a shutdown of Interstate 75 in eastern Kentucky, near Exit 49 and U.S. Route 25. Kentucky State Police are working to apprehend the shooter, who remains at large.
The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office has reported that there are an estimated four to six victims, but the extent of their injuries is currently unknown. Governor Andy Beshear has urged people to avoid the area and promised to provide further details as they become available.
The shooting on the interstate comes just days after a tragic incident at a high school in Georgia, where a student opened fire, resulting in the deaths of two students and two teachers.
Law enforcement authorities, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, are responding and assisting with the situation. London Mayor Randall Weddle has also warned people to stay away from the area affected by the shooting.
The shutdown of Interstate 75 has caused disruption in the area, with officials working to resolve the situation and ensure the safety of residents and commuters. Laurel County, located in Eastern Kentucky, is home to about 62,000 people and includes part of the Daniel Boone National Forest.
