A South Boston woman, Amina Wilcox, has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (car) and leaving the scene of personal injury after she allegedly struck and ran over another woman in the South Bay Mall parking lot and fled the scene. The incident occurred on Wednesday night, with police responding to a report of an assault and battery in progress. The victim, a 33-year-old woman, was found with cuts and scrapes on her limbs and blood coming from her mouth. She was taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses reported seeing a gray vehicle strike the victim, run her over, and drag her before fleeing the scene. Amina Wilcox was identified as the suspect based on witness statements and the victim’s account. Police located Wilcox’s vehicle parked nearby with minor damage and red residue. Wilcox was arrested at her residence and released on personal recognizance with a GPS tracking device, and ordered to stay away from the victim. Suffolk DA Kevin Hayden commended the witnesses and the victim for their cooperation in the investigation.
The victim is expected to make a full recovery, according to the DA. Wilcox is scheduled to appear in court for a pre-trial hearing on October 29. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of public cooperation in criminal investigations and the serious consequences of hit-and-run incidents.
