Katy Perry recently addressed backlash for working with disgraced producer Dr. Luke on her upcoming album, 143. In an interview on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Perry defended her decision by stating that Dr. Luke was just one of many collaborators she worked with on the project. She emphasized that the songs were based on her personal experiences and empowerment journey as a mother and woman. This collaboration with Dr. Luke sparked controversy as fans called out Perry for working with him, especially due to his history with singer Kesha, who accused him of assault in 2014.
Despite the backlash, Perry maintained that she creates music that resonates with her and makes her feel happy and empowered. She mentioned that she stayed true to herself and her authenticity throughout her career. The issue of Perry’s involvement in the legal battle between Kesha and Dr. Luke was also brought up in court documents in which Kesha claimed Perry was also a victim of the producer. However, Perry denied any sexual relationship with Dr. Luke in a deposition.
The ongoing legal battle between Kesha and Dr. Luke resulted in a settlement agreement in June 2023. Perry’s collaboration with Dr. Luke on “Woman’s World” is the first time they have worked together since her hit song “Part of Me” in 2012. Despite the controversies, Perry remains focused on creating music that brings her joy and reflects her personal growth and empowerment journey.
