U.S. Rep. Jill Tokuda criticized former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard after she endorsed Donald Trump and joined his transition team. Gabbard, who previously represented Tokuda’s district and supported Joe Biden in 2020, announced her endorsement of Trump at an event in Detroit. Tokuda argued that Gabbard’s decision does not align with Hawaii values and the concept of “pono,” which signifies righteousness and moral responsibility in Hawaiian culture. Gabbard, who ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, left the party in 2022 and has become popular among conservatives. She now frequently appears on far-right TV and radio shows.
