Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz’s motorcade was involved in a crash in Milwaukee while en route to a campaign stop at Henry Maier Festival Park. The vans following Walz were carrying press and campaign staff members, resulting in minor injuries and one campaign staffer being taken to the hospital with an injured arm. The crash occurred on the Interstate 43 and is being investigated by the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.
Despite the accident, Walz continued to speak at Laborfest, thanking the U.S. Secret Service and first responders for their quick reaction. He also mentioned that both President Biden and Vice President Harris contacted him to check on the situation. Details on what led to the crash were not immediately available, but the presence of other cars on the highway alongside the motorcade was noted as unusual.
Following Laborfest, Walz made a stop at Froedtert Hospital to check on the injured staffer before returning to the airport. The Secret Service mentioned that full road closures are typically reserved for the President of the United States or other protectees, depending on various factors including resources and expected traffic.
Overall, despite the crash and minor injuries, all involved are expected to be okay, and the incident did not deter Walz from continuing with his campaign events in Wisconsin.
