Former aide of NY Governor Hochul arrested for allegedly acting as Chinese agent

Linda Sun, a former aide to New York Governor Kathy Hochul, has been charged with acting as an undisclosed agent of the Chinese government. Prosecutors in Brooklyn said that Sun, along with her husband Chris Hu, engaged in activities that benefited the Chinese government and the Chinese Communist Party. Sun allegedly used her government position to block meetings with Taiwanese officials and facilitate high-level visits to China, while Hu received millions of dollars in transactions from Chinese government representatives. The illicit scheme was said to have enriched Sun’s family. Sun’s lawyers have not provided a comment on the charges. The FBI’s New York office expressed concern over Sun’s actions, stating that she utilized her influence to promote Chinese agendas, posing a threat to national security. Gifts such as Nanjing-style salted ducks were provided to Sun’s family from a Chinese government official. The arrests come in the midst of heightened tensions between the US and China, and a recent poll shows that most Chinese Americans and other Asian Americans are unsatisfied with China.
