Top Ten Local Theater Productions to See This Autumn in Arts Community


This fall, there are plenty of exciting plays and musicals to enjoy, and here are 10 that should not be missed. The Bushnell’s Broadway series kicks off with “A Beautiful Noise,” a musical based on the life of Neil Diamond, starring Nick Fradiani and Robert Westenberg. West Springfield’s Majestic Theater presents Eugene O’Neill’s classic “A Moon for the Misbegotten,” directed by James Warwick and starring Jay Sefton. The Capitol Fools, a new comedy group formed after the Capitol Steps disbanded, will be performing in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Other highlights include TheaterWorks Hartford’s “Christmas on the Rocks,” Hartford Stage’s “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” TheaterWorks Hartford’s “Fever Dreams,” and Barrington Stage Company’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Primary Trust.” K&E Theatre will be performing “Promises, Promises” in Northampton, while Playhouse on Park presents “The Shark is Broken,” a comedy about the making of “Jaws.” Berkshire Theatre Group will showcase Conor McPherson’s “The Weir” at the Unicorn Theatre in Stockbridge.

In addition to these productions, upcoming shows include “Les Miserables,” “The Lion King,” and “MJ: The Michael Jackson Musical” at The Bushnell, a special performance by Fran Lebowitz at the UMass Fine Arts Center, and “A Christmas Story” at Goodspeed. Westfield Theatre Group will perform “Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn,” and Exit 7 Players will present “Beauty and the Beast.” Majestic Theater’s 27th season begins with “Shear Madness,” directed by Bob Lohrmann.

Overall, this fall promises to be a diverse and exciting season for theater enthusiasts, with a wide range of productions and performances to enjoy across Connecticut and Massachusetts.
