A deadly bus crash in Mississippi resulted in the deaths of seven people and injuries to dozens of others after the bus experienced a tire failure, causing it to run off the road and overturn. The crash occurred on Interstate 20 near Vicksburg when the bus, operated by Autobuses Regiomontanos, traveled westbound with 41 passengers and two drivers on board. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash, focusing on factors such as the vehicle’s mechanical condition, driver experience, and environmental factors.
The bus company has over 20 years of experience providing trips between Mexico and the United States. The crash left six people dead at the scene, with another person succumbing to injuries at a hospital. Among the victims were a 16-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, with authorities working to identify the other casualties. A total of 36 people were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
NTSB member Todd Inman expressed condolences for the victims and survivors of the crash, stating that investigators will be on scene for further examination for at least a week. The bus crash is just one of a few incidents involving Autobuses Regiomontanos in the 24 months prior, including one fatal crash and two injury collisions. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the tragic accident.
