Northboro recently hosted the fifth annual “A Shot For Life” Baseball Challenge, where some of the Commonwealth’s top sluggers and pitchers competed to raise over $100,000 for cancer research, setting a new record for the event. CEO Mike Slonina expressed his excitement for the success of the baseball/softball event, as it has paved the way for the organization to expand into other sports and states.
The competition included a pitchers’ challenge, won by Davis Kahn of Milton Academy, and a home run derby, won by David Flynn of Worcester Academy. Flynn’s 44 total home runs, including 20 in the final round, secured his victory over runner-up Aiden Barclay of Deerfield Academy.
Flynn highlighted the importance of competing for a good cause, as the event focused on raising funds for cancer research rather than individual accomplishments. Players also had the opportunity to view the 2004 World Series Trophy displayed by officials from the Boston Red Sox.
Slonina shared his plans to continue growing the organization in Massachusetts and expand into Connecticut, with the ultimate goal of becoming a national organization. The success of the baseball challenge has inspired confidence in the organization’s ability to expand and make a broader impact in the sports community.
