Boeing Starliner spacecraft raises concerns with unexplained noise, says NASA astronaut

A NASA astronaut on the International Space Station reported a strange noise coming from the Boeing Starliner spacecraft, which is scheduled to return to Earth without its crew on Friday. Barry “Butch” Wilmore radioed Mission Control in Houston about the noise, which sounded like a pulsing sonar ping. The Starliner, which experienced helium leaks, was supposed to spend a week docked at the space station but will now stay for several months. The mysterious noise began about a week before the spacecraft is set to undock and return to Earth autonomously on September 6. The crew, including Wilmore and Sunita “Suni” Williams, will remain at the space station for another six months until they return in February aboard the SpaceX Dragon capsule.
