World’s First Cravat Museum Opens in Zagreb: A Treasure Trove of Ties That Defies Obsolescence

Zagreb is now home to the world’s first cravat museum, Cravaticum – Museum Boutique of the Cravat. The museum aims to showcase the historic significance of neckties and promote Croatia as the homeland of the cravat. The exhibitions highlight the evolution of the tie, dating back 400 years ago when Croatian soldiers introduced it to the world in the 17th century.

The 130 square metre exhibition space features contemporary and visually captivating displays curated and narrated by local artists. Showstopper items include a tie made of bulletproof material, an exhibit on silk moth cocoons and threads, and a 3D exhibit featuring horses. The museum also includes items from immersive uniforms of a Cravat regiment and innovative designs by renowned Croatian fashion designer, Juraj Zigman.

Igor Mladinović, one of the museum’s co-owners, emphasizes the interactive and fun aspect of learning at Cravaticum, especially for younger visitors. The museum joins other unique attractions in Croatia, such as the Museum of Broken Relationships, the Museum of Hangovers, and Froggyland, a museum of taxidermy frogs.

Cravaticum is open daily from 10am to 8pm, with tickets priced at €8 for adults, €5 for students, and free for children aged 7 or younger. Visit the museum’s website for more information.
