On Tuesday, the Worcester Red Sox suffered an 8-4 loss against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders at PNC Field in Moosic, Pennsylvania. The game started off with Nick Sogard hitting a home run in the first inning to put Worcester on the board. However, Worcester’s pitching struggled, with starter Brad Keller having a perfect first inning but then giving way to Jorge Benitez who gave up multiple runs in the second inning.
The RailRiders took the lead with a combination of RBI groundouts and hits, including doubles, to take a commanding 8-1 lead. Worcester’s offense only managed to score in the seventh inning, with Mickey Gasper, Nathan Hickey, and Eddy Alvarez contributing to a late rally. Despite the effort, Worcester fell short and only managed to put together a few runs before the final out.
Worcester had a slow start with only four hits in the game, while the RailRiders’ offense was more effective throughout the game. The two teams will face off again in a doubleheader on Wednesday, starting at 5:05 p.m. Worcester will look to bounce back from their loss and try to even the series against the RailRiders.
