Massachusetts Democratic delegates show strong support for endorsing Harris

The Massachusetts Democratic Party’s delegates have voted overwhelmingly to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as the party’s presidential nominee. This decision comes after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed Harris. The state party has a total of 116 delegates and eight alternates. Governor Maura Healey also voiced her support for Harris during the virtual meeting and encouraged delegates to endorse her.

Chairman Steve Kerrigan stated that the nomination process is about organization and not a coronation, emphasizing the importance of delegates in selecting the party’s nominee. The Massachusetts Democratic Party has a total of 116 delegates and eight alternates, with various methods of selection for these positions. There will be further discussions among party delegates to determine the next steps in the process.

While Massachusetts did not overwhelmingly endorse Harris during a recent call with representatives of other state parties, there was agreement on the importance of defeating Donald Trump and how President Biden’s support for Harris is crucial. Before last month’s debate, a survey showed that a majority of Massachusetts DNC delegates believed Biden should stay in the race. However, in the hypothetical scenario of Biden leaving the race, a significant percentage of delegates indicated they would be open to considering Harris and viewed her as the party’s best chance to win this fall.

Overall, the endorsement of Harris by Massachusetts Democratic Party delegates signifies a unified effort towards winning the upcoming presidential election.
