Mapping the Devastation from Israel-Hezbollah Cross-Border Attacks

BBC analysis has revealed the extent of damage and destruction along the Israel-Lebanon border after nine months of fighting between Hezbollah and Israel. Satellite photos, radar imagery, and military records show entire communities displaced and thousands of buildings damaged.

Both sides have carried out daily attacks, leading to devastating consequences for civilians. The UN reports over 90,000 people in Lebanon and 60,000 in Israel forced from their homes, with hundreds killed in the conflict. Southern Lebanese towns like Aita el Shaab, Kfar Kila, and Blida have been heavily damaged, with infrastructure like electricity and water systems destroyed.

In Israel, more than 1,000 buildings have been damaged, with significant land destruction caused by wildfires sparked by cross-border attacks. The use of unguided weapons by Hezbollah has led to vast agricultural land, farmland, and forests being affected.

Hezbollah’s goal of creating chaos and insecurity in Israel is evident, with the scale of destruction illustrated by burnt land in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Farmers like Tzahi Gabay are facing challenges, with his neighbors killed in a missile attack and his family fleeing to safety.

The ongoing conflict has led to widespread suffering and displacement on both sides, with communities left devastated by the continuous attacks. Efforts to find a resolution have so far been unsuccessful, as both Hezbollah and Israel continue their cross-border hostilities, resulting in significant damage and loss of life.
