Israel’s Targets in Attacks on the West Bank: A Focus on Occupied West Bank News

Israeli army raids in the occupied West Bank have resulted in the deaths of three Palestinian military commanders and a mother and her child. The raids, which intensified after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu returned to power, have led to mass displacement and the expansion of illegal settlements.

According to the UN, Israel has killed 203 people in the West Bank from January to June 6 this year, compared to the same period last year. Critics argue that Israel’s raids are exacerbating the root causes of armed resistance, including the decades-long occupation deemed unlawful by the International Court of Justice.

Israeli military actions, which target Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad factions, often result in civilian casualties and destruction of homes and infrastructure. Settlers are also involved in attacks on Palestinian villages, seeking to expand their territory in the West Bank.

The Palestinian Authority, constrained by the 1993 Oslo Accords that established close security coordination with Israel, struggles to protect its constituents from Israeli aggression. The PA lacks jurisdiction over Israelis, preventing it from taking action to defend Palestinians.

Activists and experts believe Israel is using the threat of “terrorism” to justify escalating violence. The raids have led to widespread displacement and destruction, intensifying tensions in the region. The ongoing conflict underscores the need for a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
