A new exhibition at Turin’s National Cinema Museum is celebrating the iconic props and designs used on Hollywood film sets to create movie magic. Titled “Movie Icons,” the exhibition curated by museum director Domenico De Gaetano and collector Luca Cabieri features 117 props from popular Hollywood movies spanning the last four decades.
Visitors can marvel at props such as Thor’s hammer, Captain America’s shield, and the neuralyzer from Men in Black, as well as iconic costumes like Superman’s suit, Batman’s cowl, and Indiana Jones’ voodoo doll. The exhibition also includes props from science fiction, fantasy, and horror movies like Freddy Krueger’s glove and the Golden Snitch from Harry Potter.
De Gaetano highlights the uniqueness of each prop, comparing them to religious relics or works of art in an art gallery. Embracing new challenges in the rapidly changing film industry, the museum is also exploring opportunities like VR installations and a new section dedicated to the overlap of video games and cinema.
Visitors are transported into a world of movie nostalgia as they admire these iconic props, with each object eliciting a sense of awe and recognition. The exhibition, which runs until January 13, 2025, offers a glimpse into the physicality of movie artifacts in an increasingly digital world, sparking memories of beloved movies and the history of popular cinema.
