Alex Cora uncertain about Vaughn Grissom’s position with Red Sox in 2024

In a disappointing turn of events for Vaughn Grissom and the Red Sox, injuries have plagued the young infielder’s first season in Boston. Traded from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for Chris Sale, Grissom was expected to fill a crucial role at second base. However, injuries to both of his hamstrings have kept him sidelined for the majority of the season.

Grissom initially dealt with a left hamstring strain that led to him losing 14 pounds due to an illness, causing further setbacks. After returning to the field, a right hamstring strain suffered while running out a ground ball has once again put him out of commission since June.

In the limited games he did play, Grissom struggled at the plate, striking out 19 times in 23 games. Despite the setbacks, the Red Sox are hopeful for his return and impact on the team. Manager Alex Cora emphasized the need to proceed cautiously with Grissom’s rehabilitation and focus on his long-term strength and conditioning.

Grissom recently started his second rehab assignment with the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox in hopes of returning to form and earning a spot back on the main roster. With uncertainties surrounding his performance and injuries, the Red Sox are taking a patient approach in hopes of seeing the potential they envisioned when acquiring Grissom.
