The University of Massachusetts women’s basketball team suffered a 79-62 defeat at the hands of Duquesne at the Mullins Center on Wednesday night. Alexsia Rose put on an impressive performance, scoring 23 points and dishing out five assists. She was supported by Stefanie Kulesza, who scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. The team also saw contributions from Kristin Williams and Lily Taulelei, who each scored seven points.
UMass got off to a strong start, but Duquesne responded with a 10-0 run to take the lead. The lead continued to change hands throughout the first half, with Duquesne maintaining a 39-28 advantage at halftime. In the third quarter, Duquesne pulled away further, holding a 62-43 lead. Despite a valiant effort from Rose, UMass was unable to close the gap, eventually falling 79-62.
Looking ahead, the Minutewomen will face off against Fordham in the Bronx on Saturday before returning to the Mullins Center for their Play4Kay game against Rhode Island on Wednesday, February 14.
UMass will be aiming to bounce back from their defeat as they continue their season. The team will be looking to Rose for continued strong performances as they seek to secure more victories in the competitive Atlantic 10 conference.
