Three men in Kansas City, Missouri, died from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning, while another man is in critical condition in the hospital. The fire department was called to a home in the Sheffield neighborhood and found three Hispanic males dead and one man critically ill. The preliminary cause is suspected to be the indoor use of a generator. Carbon monoxide is an odorless and colorless gas that can be produced by burned fuel in various appliances. The CDC recommends installing carbon monoxide detectors in homes, especially in bedrooms, and to call 911 immediately if carbon monoxide poisoning is suspected. Additionally, it is important to never use a generator in enclosed spaces, service gas-powered appliances regularly, clean and check chimneys annually, and never use a gas oven or burn charcoal indoors. These precautions can help prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
