Pope Francis celebrated his 87th birthday on Sunday, making him one of the oldest popes in the history of the Catholic Church. Despite health scares, Francis has continued his efforts to reform the Church and has expressed his commitment to the papacy for life. He is fast approaching the age of Pope Gregory XII, who voluntarily resigned at the age of 88 and a half in 1415. The Pope has also condemned the Israeli military attack on Gaza’s Holy Family Catholic Parish, where two women were killed and the convent of the Missionaries of Charity church was destroyed. Francis called for an end to the “terrorism” of war and urged prayers for peace. Despite the challenges, Pope Francis remains dedicated to his role as the leader of the Catholic Church.
