The iconic sleigh used in the classic holiday movie “Elf” is making its way to New York City in celebration of the film’s 20th anniversary. The 18-foot, one-ton sleigh will leave the Halesite Fire Department in Long Island and travel to Bergdorf Goodman department store for display on Sunday. The public will have the chance to climb onboard and take pictures, with the opportunity to take ‘elfies’ on the sleigh.
Despite initially hoping to only buy smaller props from the film, Mark Bozek and wife Susan ended up purchasing the sleigh in a competitive online auction for $12,000. They later donated it to the local fire department, which has cared for and displayed it every year during the holiday season.
The journey of the sleigh to New York City is a tribute to the movie, intended to spread holiday cheer in a year of challenges and uncertainty. The New York State police will escort the sleigh into the city, and Fifth Avenue will be closed to traffic for the occasion. Mark Bozek has emphasized that spreading smiles and happiness is needed more than ever during these difficult times.
The arrival of the sleigh in Manhattan is a heartwarming and festive event, giving fans of the beloved movie the chance to enjoy memories and moments of joy from one of the most iconic holiday films of the last two decades. The event is hoping to be as whimsical and joyful as the movie that inspired it, and is sure to bring warmth and happiness to all who attend.
