Calls for truce after hostage tragedy

Demands for Israel to negotiate a cease-fire with Hamas militants are increasing following the fatal shooting of three Israeli hostages after they escaped Hamas captivity. Protesters have set up tents outside the Israeli Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv demanding negotiations with Hamas. Israeli officials, including the head of the Mossad spy agency, have reportedly met with Qatari mediators to discuss renewed talks. International figures such as the French Foreign Minister, Pope Francis, and the British foreign secretary have also called for a cease-fire, release of more hostages, and increased humanitarian aid for Gaza. Meanwhile, Israeli forces have reported finding the largest Hamas tunnel yet in northern Gaza. The funeral for one of the men killed by friendly fire took place without any representation from the Israeli government. The Israeli military has accused Hamas of using tunnels under civilian buildings and expressed concerns that the ground campaign could provide more opportunities for hostages to escape. The situation is causing concern both within and outside Israel, with increasing pressure for a peaceful resolution.
