Mr. Brown’s response to the Covid pandemic and his interest in colonial America led to the creation of Praxis, a proposed city from scratch. In 2022, he told a speechwriter that witnessing looters during the protests after George Floyd’s murder inspired the idea. However, Mr. Brown disputed some statements made to the speechwriter without clarification. Despite facing rejection from prestigious universities, he was determined to pursue his dream of building a city, eventually co-founding Praxis with a friend. Their plans to establish a financial center in Ghana were derailed by the pandemic. The project reflects Mr. Brown’s interest in charter cities – economic zones governed by third parties in a decentralized manner, and the most advanced similar project is Próspera on the Honduran island of Roatán. Mr. Brown’s journey from a competitive surfer to a hedge fund analyst, facing rejection but never giving up on his dream, highlights the ambition and determination behind the creation of Praxis.
